The Smoker
I was playing around with the shape of a pipe, and this critter popped out instead. You never know what’s going to be sneaking up on you when you’re just trying to draw.

We turn away from truly seeing ourselves, because we’re afraid that we won’t be loved. But without seeing ourselves truly, we’re robbed of the ability to have mercy and compassion. Those who have been forgiven much love much, but only through knowing how much they’ve been forgiven.

An unfinished attempt at a graphite portrait of my six-year-old, Ronan.
I’m not really good at capturing a likeness, hence the practice sketch, but I at least got most of the way there on this one. It’s amazing to me how you can have a feature ever so slightly out of proportion and it’s just so obviously “off”.
I’m going to revisit this portrait in the future.
